Patrick Mannelly was born in Atlanta. He attended Marist High School in there where he was lettered in football and basketball. Attending Duke University, he played long snapper for 4 seasons.

Mannelly was drafted by the Bears in 1998 and had a superb career with Bears, so much so that he considered the model for long snappers in the NFL. Mannelly was 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds. He played for more seasons than any other Bear (16 seasons) and played in more games than any other Bear (245). Mannelly was chosen the 2013 Ed Block Courage Award recipient by his teammates.  He was named one of the Top 100 Bears of  All Time.
