James Otis “Big Cat” Williams

James Williams was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and attended Taylor Allderdice High School, a school that produced a great many distinguished graduates in professional sports, law, science, entertainment, media, and more.  Williams attended Cheyney University and played defensive tackle for the football team that had a poor record. He was not drafted after college. The Bears signed him as a free agent in 1991, and he was used a as backup on the defensive line on  his first few years on the team. In 1993, he was switched over to offensive tackle where he found a home and a sweet spot in the roster that he did not relinquish from 1994-2002. Williams played at 6-foot-7, 239 pounds. Williams incredible bass voice was often heard on television and radio–a popular source of information on the Bears who spoke with authority. He is a regular on WTTW Public Television in Chicago.  Williams was invited to the Pro Bowl in 2001. He was honored with the Brian Piccolo Award in 2001 as well. Williams was named one of the 100 Greatest Bears of All Time.
