The Very Purpose of Love and Marriage

Matthew 19:3-12

The Navarre Bible notes are instructive.

“Mutual self-giving of the spouses,

Together with the procreation and

Education of children calls for

Indissolubility” of marriage.

From Vatican II, we also know that

“Thus a man and a woman, who by their

Compact of conjugal love ‘are no long-

er two, but one flesh’ render mutual

Help and service to each other through an

Intimate union of their persons and

Their actions…the good of the children

Impose total fidelity on the

Spouses and…an unbreakable oneness…”
