Before Christ Was Buried, His Side Was Pierced

John 19:31-37

The soldiers did not break the legs of Christ.

They knew that Jesus was already dead.

Jesus Christ was/is the true Paschal Lamb.

Jesus took away the sin of the world.

When the soldiers pierced the side of Jesus,

Blood and water flowed.  These are the figures

Of the sacraments and the Church itself.

Church Doctor Augustine is right again.

Here is a great quote from Vatican II.

“The origin and growth of the Church are

Symbolized by the blood and water which

Flowed from the open side of…Jesus” Christ.

When Jesus Christ won salvation on the

Cross, God’s redemption promise was fulfilled.
