Christ Reacts to the Death of Lazarus

                John 11:1-45

Lazarus was ill.  Martha and Mary

sent for Jesus.  Jesus waited two days.

Lazarus died.  Jesus walked two miles from

Jerusalem to Bethany.  Christ wept.

The Navarre Bible notes are instructive.

“This is the shortest verse in the Bible.”

Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.

Jesus showed power over death.  This is

a sign of our future resurrection.

Saint Augustine saw risen Lazarus

as everyone’s reconciliation.

Lazarus came out of the tomb still bound.

We go to Confession still guilty.

Lazarus became loosed.  We’re forgiven.

Martha and Mary Welcomed Jesus Christ
