Greatest Commandment, Greatest Gift of All
Matthew 22:34-40
Christ teaches the two commandments of love.
Our mandate is to love God and neighbor.
The Navarre Bible notes are instructive.
Saint Bede wrote, “you cannot truly love God
If you do not love your neighbor, (nor) truly
Love your neighbor if you do not love God.”
“The only true proof of our love for God:
We love and help and care for our brothers.”
Saint Thomas Aquinas wrote, “when man is loved,
God is loved, because man is the image
Of God.” Saint Bernard wrote, “the reason to
Love God is God; the method and means are
To love Him without methods or means.” No
Other saints were quoted for this passage.
