Lazarus and the Rich Man Parable

Luke 16:19-31

A rich man lived a life of luxury.
He did not see Lazarus as neighbor.
Lazarus was poor and thus overlooked.
He was another self of the rich man.

The rich man was deaf to the voice of God.
Even though God spoke quite clearly to him.
God spoke well through Moses and the prophets.
The rich man and his brothers did not hear.

The soul does indeed survive after death.
There will be a holy day of judgment.
Prosperity does not mean probity.
Misfortune is not punishment for sin.

Cardinal George used to say, if we give
to the poor, we won’t have to go to Hell.
