The Martyrdom of Saint John the Baptist

Mark 6:14-29

The Navarre Bible notes are instructive.

Saint John the Baptist was the Precursor.

He prepared the way of the Messiah.

People regarded John as a prophet.

They travelled great distances to see him.

“Herod had a certain respect for John

And liked to hear him speak, and yet ended

Up beheading him.”  The birthday feast was

Wild.  The young woman’s dance was seductive.

The king made a terrible oath.  These are

Examples of how not to behave.  Lust

Led King Herod into a great sin.

Jim Finks said of my dancing, “It looks like

You would rather be taking a beating.”
