The Parable of the Wicked Tenants

Matthew 21:33-43, 45-46

From the Navarre Bible notes, we know that
This is about salvation history.

“Israel is compared to a vineyard.”
God lavished a lot of great care on it.
Instead of good grapes, it produced wild grapes.

The tenants are like Israel’s rulers.
God charged them to look after his people.
“God sent prophets…but they found no fruit.”
The prophets were treated poorly or killed.

Finally, God sent His Son Jesus Christ.
The tenants are ready to kill the son.
They expect to inherit the vineyard.
They are mistaken. The vineyard went to
“A nation producing the fruits of it.”

Patrick McCaskey
