The Writing of Jesus Christ in the Dirt

John 8:1-11

Early in the morning, Jesus Christ was

In the temple area.  When people

Came to Jesus, He sat down and taught them.

A woman was caught in adultery.

She was brought to Jesus for a ruling.

Jesus wrote something unknown in the dirt.

He invited the sinless to stone her.

No one was qualified, except Jesus.

Jesus told her not to sin anymore.

Seamus Heaney compared the writing of

Jesus Christ in the dirt to poetry.

Poetry, like the dirt writing, marks time.

“Poetry holds attention for a space.”

Poetry functions as concentration.
