Sporting Chance Press author J. D. Thorne to speak on May 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the Elm Grove Public Library, Elm Grove, Wisconsin. Thorne is the author of The 10 Commandments of Baseball: An Affectionate Look at Joe McCarthy’s Principles of Success in Baseball (and Life).
Here’s the Library’s description of the program:
The 10 Commandments of Baseball are the rules for success – in the game and in life. They were first published in 1921 by a then minor league manager, Joe McCarthy. The Commandments themselves are down-to-earth strategies he used to train his players during a Hall of Fame managing career during the “golden age” of baseball from 1926 to 1950. Relive famous anecdotes of the game, from Babe Ruth’s famous home run call at Wrigley Field in 1932, Lou Gehrig’s “Luckiest Man” speech in 1938, and the 56 game hitting streak of Joe DiMaggio in 1941. Listen to the colorful stories our speaker has collected illustrating McCarthy’s rules. Come to the program understand why Mr. Thorne’s book, The 10 Commandments of Baseball has been selected for sale by the museum store of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. This joyful presentation is free to attend. No registration needed.
