Bobby Joe Green was born in Vernon, Texas, and went to Bartlesville High School in Oklahoma (formerly Bartlesville College High School). He played for the Gators of the University of Florida on a football scholarship. Green was a punter and halfback for the Gators. He was a late round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers, but ended up on the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1960-1961 and then was traded to the Bears where he played from 1962-1973. Green was a punter in the pros and was invited to the Pro Bowl in 1970. Green was almost always in the top 10 for punts, punting yardage, and long punts during his career. Green played for the Bears during their 1963 Championship season and was named as one of the Top 100 Bears of All Time. Green punted 833 times for the Bears for 35,057 yielding 42.1 yards per punt. For his career, Green punted 970 times for 41,317 yielding 42.6 yards per punt.

He is one of the 100 Top Bears of All-Time selected by sports writers, Don Pierson and Dan Pompei, for the Bears’ centennial anniversary.
